Music Theory Lessons

Study music theory with Ken Bowden

Theory lessons have been traditionally used for exam purposes to help a student meet the prerequisites for practical exams. Workbooks are published that are structured in a progressive manner taking the student from a beginner to advanced level.

This approach to music theory incorporates all the various elements of musical notation starting with basic note and rest values and working through to melody and harmony writing.

These days some students are wanting their theory knowledge to better equip them to achieve practical goals with music. Understanding keys, chords, modes and songwriting concepts are all skills that can be taught in the standard lesson format or online.

Theory lessons can be given on a casual basis, but regular lessons are the best option for progressive skill development, especially at advanced levels.

Ken has taught our daughter over 5 years. During this time, he has shown exceptional skills and attributes as a music teacher. His kind and patient manner has helped our daughter immensely to learn. Ken also accommodated our daughter’s pace which assisted her to grow over time. My daughter says “He is absolutely amazing and I couldn’t have learned piano without him”. We would highly recommend Ken to anyone wanting to learn piano.
