Online Lessons

Study piano online with Ken Bowden

Piano and Keyboard lessons can be delivered online with a reliable Facetime or Skype connection. This type of lesson has the benefits of flexibility with time and place as the teacher and student don’t need to be in the same room for the lesson to take place. They can be in different countries and in different time zones and that is no longer a restriction to having music lessons as the technology is very fast and reliable to transmit quality video and audio.

All you need is a smart device (phone, tablet or laptop) that can be positioned to capture video of the hands on the keyboard, and you’re in business! Software is available for the teacher to play the student’s keyboard and the student to play the teachers keyboard online and the instrument will play as if the other person is in the same room.

Online lessons can be a good option where students are needing lessons to help achieve specific short-term goals, and so a casual arrangement can be setup where lessons don’t have to be locked into a typical weekly commitment.

 Testimonials

I studied piano with Ken Bowden for seven years and had the privilege of working alongside him at a private school on the Sunshine Coast, in which he continued to act as a mentor in supporting my development as an instrumental piano teacher. I remember the days of my piano lessons with great fondness and tribute the lessons and Ken’s style of teaching to my success, both as a musician, piano teacher and music therapist. Ken tailors his music lessons to the individual, taking into account their learning style, interests and goals and this helped me not only in learning piano but also a person in that I felt heard, understood, worthy and that my goals, hopes and dreams were important to him and we worked together to make them happen. Ken helped me not only to achieve my goals in music examinations to AMEB grade 7 but to also successfully gain entry and complete a Masters degree in Music Therapy and I am now working as a Registered Music Therapist in palliative care for the Sunshine Coast Hospital Health Service.

As a past student of Ken's for 12 years, I highly recommend him as a piano teacher. Not only did I learn how to play the piano from scratch with his help, but the weekly lessons helped keep me in a position to continue my development as a pianist. At every stage of my journey, Ken has connected with me in a positive and engaging manner, whether I was a 6-year-old who could hardly reach the pedals or an 18-year-old interested in improvisational piano. Of course, on my journey, there were times when I wanted to quit but, with the help of Ken (and my parents), I've come out the other side as someone confident in their abilities as a musician.
Now I've graduated from school, I not only play the piano for leisure but Ken and I play alongside each other in a church band. He has helped guide my musical journey from the beginning and, being able to look back at that, I realise that Ken not only gave me my music, but also a friend.
